Members of the Canadian Pakistani community in Durham Region recently had a fundraising dinner to raise funds for the Pakistan Flood Relief. Over $40,000 was raised for food boxes, emergency kits and shelter rehabilitation.

Vaqar Raees, President of Friends Indeed Canada and The Pakistani Canadian Society of Durham, who has been helping various causes, cultures and faiths over the last twelve years, says now was the time to help family and friends in Pakistan.

“Today we are holding a flood fundraiser for recent floods in Pakistan where about 38 million people are affected. The people affected by the floods in Pakistan are about the population of Canada. One third of the country is underwater. So we thought why not collect the people, bring the people together and raise some funds and things to help the poor – people whose houses are gone, whose wealth is gone, everything is gone and people are on the streets so that is why we are having that.”

Vaqar goes on to make a plea, asking you to donate, even if you didn’t get a chance to attend the fundraising dinner, to help the victims of the Pakistan floods.

In the video below, he says: “So you are not present here but you are watching this and I would request you if you want help, please go to our website which is FICAN.ca and you can donate online.”

We sincerely thank Vaqar and the Friends Indeed Canada for their amazing fundraising effort. #DurhamRegionProud #OurDurhamLife
